Peripheral Junkie

I blame EGM. Their glossy pages peddled numerous SNES peripherals that spoke of increasing gaming fun/skill. It all went into the junk pile. But the addiction lives on with all the numerous peripherals I own for 360/PS3. Some other memorable crap I had for SNES:

Turbo was a big deal when I was a kid. Turbo was supposed to be the panacea for blistered thumbs and lack of skill. These controllers sucked because they ate up batteries so fast. Mom and Dad really loved me a lot to buy me all this junk.

I wrote about this behemoth in a previous post. Heavy as hell. I remember getting it in Hong Kong; I think my Aunt bought it for me. It was expensive. It was fun programming simple SFII:Turbo commands into it; this was back when doing dragon punches were hard for me. I didn't feel comfortable using joysticks at the time, so it quickly went unused.

I think every kid pretty much had a game genie. This thing was king. I got lots of play time out of it. I remember EGM would offer prizes for new game genie codes, and I mailed in a code that made Mortal Kombat blood turn blue and that the characters would turn into a pixelated blurs sometimes. I also mailed in shitty envelope art I traced to try to get a free game.

I had one of these to play Street Fighter II:Turbo. This was a big deal to me as a kid since back then the US would get games MUCH later than Japan. Getting the games early in HK was a big bonus for me when I went every summer.

Randomness:

Growing up, I remember seeing these Street Fighter Chinese comics in the laser disc store on Noriega. Didn't know they did it for so many video game series. Found out they're called Man Hua. Check them out here and here
