Less than 10 days till I close. The builder is scrambling like mad to finish up the house. I have my walk-through and my inspection on the 26th, so I’m sure I’ll find a ton of details to bust em on. Some surprises: I didn’t realize I’d be getting a mini-front lawn and a mini-lawn by my patio. No idea how my side lawn will be getting any sunlight since the neighboring house is so close to mine. Having to mow the lawn is going to be a pain the ass too…I’ll probably end up buying a manual push mower or borrow my brother’s mower. I’d much rather just have more concrete or landscaping shrubs.

I went a little crazy with the HDR pictures, but it was 9pm and not all the lights worked inside so all the pictures were taken with long exposures on my tripod.

The biggest changes since last time were the installation of my Jatoba hardwood floors and carpeting. Not visible in the pictures because they are protected by cardboard. They also installed the granite slab last week. Love the laminated edge detail I chose – makes the slab look even thicker. Small gripe: sink has that tiny basin attached; I would have preferred two large tubs instead.

Appliances are being fitted here… Viking 6 burner range, Viking microwave, Viking dishwasher and 2nd Viking oven. I plan on getting a griddle plate for the middle two burners.

I’m incredibly excited to be moving into a house and even more thankful to be fortunate enough to have wonderful parents to help me. I’m forever thankful to my brother for basically walking me through all the steps of the home purchase. I don’t mind being reminded a thousand times how lucky and rare it is to be 24 and owning a home; slightly weird feeling to be ’settling down’ at a young age, but it will be a good opportunity to spend more time with my parents when they come live with me.

Film.com sponsored a SIFF Face the Music rock party last Thursday – conveniently coincided with our team event; so after dinner at Tango we all headed over to Neumos. I was a bit sour at missing Siberian, but gift horse and all; the show was awesome. Got some great shots; although the vids I took were sound blown. Jesse Sykes was interesting, love the alt-country/indie/jam-rock sound…
Viva Voce rocked out – the drum kit was 2 feet from my head: good for pictures, bad for ears. The guitarist is beeeeeautiful. Shame, a married woman; not too often do you see a husband and wife rock band; odd that he wasn’t wearing a wedding band while she was. Check my flickr for more shots.

Less than 12 days till close! Went to the Kasala Outlet today and saw a glass table similar to the one pictured – put a deposit down on it along with four brown leather dining chairs (mid-back). My mom will be in town next week so I’d like her opinion on the table and chairs before I complete the purchase. My brother convinced me to go with a rectangular table since it could be placed against the wall to save space; especially since I will often be eating alone. The company who makes the table is “Chair-tech” which after some research; turns out to be a Canadian company- which most likely wholesales out of China. It’s almost impossible to not buy China-made products nowadays; furniture places have been telling me that eventually the entire Natuzzi line will be outsourced to China (at first I thought it was only Italsofa that was China-made). Part of me would still like my furniture to not just be designed in Italy, but made in as well. Thankfully, the Natuzzi sectional I have my eye on right now is still being produced in Italy.
Here’s a picture of the general area where the table would go
My house comes with lame one way flip switches. One of the first things on the agenda will be to switch to some nicer Lutron switches – so I started looking and discovered these hot Lutron Vierti switches/dimmers coming out this fall. LED touch dimmer – and every guy loves LEDs. The Vierti comes in 3 different LED colors (swapable colors!) and various finishes; the brushed steel one looks HOT.
They have an interactive demo for this switch too!

My hardwood floors & carpet have been installed this week! I snuck in today to take a peek but the flooring was all covered by taped down cardboard. From the small areas I could see, the wood is not as deep red as I thought. The flooring is by Kentwood; and from the picture on the website you can tell it isn’t very red either. The flooring is 4 3/4″, I wish I was 5″ like my brother’s dark colored floors. My buddy in the remodeling business tells me that since my hardwood is solid and 3/4″, it’s going to last forever since it can be sanded – thickness of 3/4″.
Small preview off the Kentwood site – definitely not as “yellow” as the standard red oak.

The carpet has been installed in most areas too – Tuftex Carrara in Wilderness color. Nice thing about the carpet is the deeper colors because of the weave.
Pics to come

I love this dining table. Art and function all in one. Glass is also a plus – easy clean up, no staining. Has anyone seen this in person? I’d want this in my kitchen nook along with some leather chairs…
