Closed

5 things

  1. Closed today. Got my keys. Mom is in town for my walk-through/closing. Inspection and walk-through happened Wednesday; found a lot of little stuff, inspector found a ton of things that needed correcting. Blue tape all over the house right now. Still needs a major clean-up.
  2. New albums consumed: White Stripes, Dizzee Rascal, Polyphonic Spree, Siberian, The Click Five, The National, Beastie Boys, Queens of the Stone Age, Maps, Mandy Moore, Paramore. Enjoyed in bold.
  3. Picked up a book - it's been ages. Douglas Coupland's jPod. Enjoying it very much (huge DC fan), should be done with it in another day.
  4. Driven insane with the small stuff: water & sewer company, electric, internet, cable, trash, appliance delivery, garage door opener guy (Genie Stealth Pro, belt-driven). My builder didn't tell me the house doesn't come with a garage door opener(!)
  5. Resident Evil 4 for Wii is awesome zombie killing fun.

Siberian - Airship
I was bummed I didn't get to see Siberian play this song at Neumo's last week.

Test Your Reflex - Do We Belong
Found this band off Rhapsody's 'bands to watch' - this song reminds me of J-rock...maybe it's the piano or something, but the way the whole song sounds reminds me of Glay or Larc or one of the many jrock bands and songs I was addicted to in the late 90s.

Paint fun

Two very cool ideas: chalk paint used in the kitchen and magnetic paint in the hallway. Found these both at boingboing, I especially like the magnetic paint idea; very fun and decorative way to spice up an urban space. I doubt I could find any use for this in my house, but looks really fun otherwise. Chalk is too messy for me, but cleanup would be easy since it's in the kitchen anyway...

Natuzzi Rumor

Ahhh - so the rumor among the furniture showrooms I've been frequenting could be true: Natuzzi is moving all their production to China. At first I was aware their Italsofa line was produced by factories in Latin America and China, but I was under the impression that even the Natuzzi-branded lines would still be made in Italy. Not so anymore, apparently all production will slowly be shifted to China to meet the competition; leather will still be imported to China I've been told, but all the production (still according to Natuzzi-quality specs) will be done in China.

House update

Less than 10 days till I close. The builder is scrambling like mad to finish up the house. I have my walk-through and my inspection on the 26th, so I'm sure I'll find a ton of details to bust em on. Some surprises: I didn't realize I'd be getting a mini-front lawn and a mini-lawn by my patio. No idea how my side lawn will be getting any sunlight since the neighboring house is so close to mine. Having to mow the lawn is going to be a pain the ass too...I'll probably end up buying a manual push mower or borrow my brother's mower. I'd much rather just have more concrete or landscaping shrubs.

I went a little crazy with the HDR pictures, but it was 9pm and not all the lights worked inside so all the pictures were taken with long exposures on my tripod.

The biggest changes since last time were the installation of my Jatoba hardwood floors and carpeting. Not visible in the pictures because they are protected by cardboard. They also installed the granite slab last week. Love the laminated edge detail I chose - makes the slab look even thicker. Small gripe: sink has that tiny basin attached; I would have preferred two large tubs instead.

Appliances are being fitted here... Viking 6 burner range, Viking microwave, Viking dishwasher and 2nd Viking oven. I plan on getting a griddle plate for the middle two burners.

Kitchen

I'm incredibly excited to be moving into a house and even more thankful to be fortunate enough to have wonderful parents to help me. I'm forever thankful to my brother for basically walking me through all the steps of the home purchase. I don't mind being reminded a thousand times how lucky and rare it is to be 24 and owning a home; slightly weird feeling to be 'settling down' at a young age, but it will be a good opportunity to spend more time with my parents when they come live with me.
